At the General Assembly in Malmö (Sweden) on 14 October, CEV members have elected Eva Hambach as new CEV president. Eva follows Marijke Steenbergen who has stepped down after filling this role for two years.

After her election, Eva said:

"My election as a President is a great honour for me and for my organisation and I would like to thank the CEV membership for their support and trust. CEV is indeed very lucky to have an excellent and growing network of organisations and a strong Board of Directors with very committed and experienced members. It will be my top priority to make strategic use of all our talents towards our common goal: a strong and sustainable future for CEV in the years to come.

CEV has developped over the last years in big leaps and the legacy of my predecessors, particularly Christopher Spence and Marijke Steenbergen, is a thriving organisation that looks ahead. it is exciting to see what we have achieved together - with the European Year of Volunteering 2011 being the most visible success. These developments are great opportunities and need to be managed well: we need to put a focus on the internal strengthening and deepening of our network allowing all members to contribute - notably those that face challenges and barriers when wanting to get involved in European and CEV affairs. We want to pave the way for an enabling volunteering infrastructure in Europe and need to think ahead about the agenda to achieve it, in our network but at policy level. And we need to ensure that our higher expectations in EYV 2011 are met - through active commitment of ourselves and activating all stakeholders. I will have an open ear to our members and encourage you to send me your suggestions and comments on our challenges ahead:

It is our all CEV and only together can we make our organisation a voice of volunteering in Europe".
