International Volunteer Day: From Volunteering for our Planet, local and national celebrations of volunteer effort to inspiring and outstanding individual stories

On 5 December, members of the European Year of Volunteering (EYV) Alliance celebrate the International Volunteer Day, occasion to recognize the contribution of millions of volunteers around the world.

The theme of the International Volunteer Day 2009 is "Volunteering for our Planet". The newsletter prepared by the EYV Alliance highlights some of the ways volunteers are contributing to the fight against climate change, it also features events organised at national and local level to celebrate volunteering and it portraits individual stories such as that of the Finnish MP Sanna Lauslahti.
