The 20 short-listed logos and slogans from the Let's Slogo competition had been submitted in November to the European Commission, which, with the help of a high level panel composed of representatives of European institutions, civil society and media professionals, did the final selection.
The official logo will take Image No.463 as a basis, and the slogan will be 'Volunteer! Make a difference'. Both will be graphically/linguistically adapted before dissemination to a wider public in relation to the promotion of the Year.

The Alliance has launched on 6 August the “Let’s Slogo!” competition on www.eyv2011.eu to call for proposals for logos and slogans. This website is available in 19 EU languages.
20 proposals for logos and 20 proposals for slogans will be pre-selected and sent to an official jury organized by the European Commission in November 2009. The winners will be announced on December 16 at a conference organized by the European Commission in Brussels. Proposals for logos and slogans can be sent between 17 August until 18 September 2009. The general public as well as an online volunteers’ jury composed of volunteers active in the 21 networks will be able to vote on this website for the best proposals.
This is the first time citizens can shape the visual identity of a European Year – a great opportunity to be seized by participating in the competition.

Following the adoption of the Written Declaration, a press conference was convoked by the MEPs that have launched the Written Declaration. CEV President Marijke Steenbergen was invited to speak on behalf of the NGO European networks alliance.

"I very much welcome the adoption of the EP Written Declaration on declaring 2011 the European Year of Volunteering with 454 signatures. I am delighted to see that the representatives of the only directly elected European institution take the voice of citizens seriously - this campaign is a truly bottom-up one, supported by the 17 major civil society networks in Europe and instigated by the European Volunteer Centre (CEV) in 2006 with the Manifesto for Volunteering in Europe. 4 institutions have now called for the Year to be organised - the ball is now in the European Commission's court", Marijke said.
Please find here the Joint Press Release of the NGO Europeannetworks involved in the campaign.
