Member information
HESTIA was founded in 1993, and is a non-governmental and non-profit organisation.
The mission of HESTIA is to positively enhance interpersonal relationships. HESTIA is actively engaged in research, training and educational programmes in the field of volunteering. It advises professionals and supervises volunteers, engages in publishing and has contact with partners both within the Czech Republic and abroad.
HESTIA’s Main Activities are:
- Research, training and education
- Publication
- Consultations, supervision and affiliation for volunteers and professionals
- Making national and international contacts with institutions engaged in similar activities and initiatives
- Publicising activities
The National Volunteer Centre organises programmes and projects in the fields of social work, social and medical care, culture and a wide range of youth programmes.
Since 1995 HESTIA has been responsible for coordinating the volunteer programme for children "Big Brothers Big Sisters International", which is known as "Pet P." in the Czech Republic.
HESTIA also supports the development of Regional Volunteer Centres and Programmes in the Czech Republic, for example Usti nad Labem, Kromeriz , Ceske Budejovice and Brno.
HESTIA also cooperates with many other NGOs such as YMCA Praha, SYMPOSION Praha, LATA Praha, Volunteer Centre Usti nad Labem, RATOLEST Brno, SPEKTRUM Kromeriz , "D" Liberec, PROSO Olomouc, PRO_TEEN Hradec Kralove, AGNES Praha, OSF Praha, OSI New YORK, NROS Praha, Nadace VIA Praha and others.
HESTIA - became a member of the International Association of Volunteer Effort (IAVE) in 1999. HESTIA is also a member of the European Volunteer Centre (CEV), the European Network of Youth Mentoring Organisations and Volonteurope.
