Member information

The Pan Cyprian Volunteerism Coordinative Council (formerly Pancyprian Welfare Council, PWC) is the Supreme Co-ordinating Body of Voluntary Social Welfare in Cyprus. It was founded in 1973 and legally established by Law 152/89. The PWC brings together hundreds of voluntary social welfare organisations and associations at the local and national level, representing therefore the interests of a wide range of the civil society. The PWC promotes co-operation and co-ordination between its member organisations, aims to improve the organised voluntary welfare system in Cyprus, channels the concerns of its member organisations to the government, ensures the circulation of information on national and international activities and policies to its members and other relevant bodies and institutions.

Policy:

  • Identification of social problems and needs
  • Active contribution to the civil dialogue and social policy formulation/implementation processes
  • Evaluation of the member organsiations’ social welfare activities and actions
  • Co-ordination of the member organisations’ activities and provision of technical support
  • Development and policy formulation of the Cyprus Volunteers’ Corps
  • Development of international relations, with emphasis on the European Union
  • Systematic training for the development of the human resources of the member
  • Organisation, through the PWC’s Training - Development & Research Centre
  • Development of measures to achieve a structured civil dialogue framework between the government and the member organisations
Activities:
  • Communication and contact with the government and participation in Committees and government processes for contribution to social policy formulation and implementation
  • Development of co-operative processes between the PWC and its member organisations for the promotion of common positions and objectives at government levels
  • Implementation of systematic training seminars for the development of the human resources of the member organisations
  • Organisation/co-ordination of conferences and the Elders’ Parliament Participation at the Cyprus International Fair
  • Organisation of Volunteers’ Week: to celebrate the International Volunteer Day (adopted by the UN General Assembly), in order to heighten awareness of the contribution of volunteer services and of the role of the voluntary social welfare in Cyprus

Cyprus Volunteers’ Corps

The Cyprus Volunteers’ Corps, established in 1991, recruits, manages, and trains people, who are willing to offer voluntary service in the social sector. It operates at the district level, by the District Welfare Councils (members of the Pancyprian Welfare Council).
