Member information
Brit Olam seeks to promote social welfare, community leadership, civic participation, and humanitarian aid among and between people and nations. Our core mission is to reduce poverty, hardship and vulnerability in fragile communities and to advance equality of opportunity, freedom and self-expression. To achieve this mission, Brit Olam (meaning World Alliance) brings together Israeli and Diaspora Jewish volunteers, along with active citizens from a wide range of backgrounds to help children, families and their communities.
Brit Olam volunteers participate in international humanitarian projects in developing countries as well as respond to natural and human made disasters. Youth and young adults are essential stakeholders in all of Brit Olam’s work. Brit Olam’s mission reflects the fundamental belief that service to the community builds self-respect, leadership skills and civic responsibility in young people, thereby enhancing their lives and strengthening their communities.
Brit Olam draws its vision and inspiration from the values of modern civil society and from the humanitarian values of Jewish tradition. Volunteerism embodies the Jewish value of Tikkun Olam (repairing the world) through compassion and social action. Brit Olam emphasizes awareness of the unique culture and needs of different communities, fostering tolerance and cultural pluralism as we work together for the common good.
Brit Olam strives to strengthen bonds between Israelis, Diaspora Jews and people of all cultures and societies, uniting a diverse community of volunteers from around the globe. Brit Olam promotes a socio-cultural world view in which each individual is a citizen of the world with an interest in advancing the welfare and basic human rights of other citizens wherever they may be.
"And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant (the Brit Olam) between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth…" Genesis 9/16.
