Member information
A public institution, The Volunteer Centre was established in 1998 by the Information and Support Centre of non-governmental organisations. In 2006, one of the constituants became the Municipality of the capital city of Lithuania Vilnius. The Volunteer Centre implements a wide range of activities: coordinative, social, cultural, civil. The Centre works on a national level with people of different age, gender, nationality, religious belief, health, political belief and so on.
The Volunteer Centre is based in Vilnius and works on a national level. It seeks to have member-organisations in the whole of the Republic of Lithuania.
Mission: Co-ordination and promotion of vountary work in Lithuania.
Aims and Objectives
- Encourage and fully legislate volunteer work
- Encourage discussions about voluntary activity and keep it in the forefront of the strategic aims/policy of Lithuania
- Create new possibilities for citizens with productive ideas and skills to participate in communities
- Spread and promote volunteer activity in Lithuania
- Create a volunteer net in the Republic of Lithuania and seek close cooperation with volunteer organisations from the European Union
- Help individual volunteers and organisations to find each other
- Provide education and training opportunities for young and senior aged citizens
- Provide non-formal learning for youth and people of senior age through voluntary activity
- Gather international experience and practice of volunteer work, and apply it on a local level
- Provide volunteers with an opportunity to find friends and cousins in Lithuania and other countries all over the world
- Work with European spirit
Activities
- The establishment of the volunteer law in Lithuania and the initiation of full legislation of volunteer work
- The creation of the conditions and compensation system to accomplish voluntary work
- The development of volunteer traditions and positive image creation in society
- Promotion and information of volunteer work for the media, public and policy makers
- Annual organisation of International Volunteer Day, on December 5th, at a national level
- The presentation of honourable awards founded by The Volunteer Centre to the best volunteers of the year on International Volunteer Day
- Consultations, training, preparation of methodical material, organisation of conferences, forums and civil actions
- Volunteer base development, administration and update of the internet site
- The non-formal education of youth and people of senior age by volunteer work
- Planning of programmes and projects in the fields of social work, social and medical care, culture, youth and seniors volunteer programmes
- Cooperation and networking
