Volunteering for all ages – Summit of Generations
22 -23 May 2005, Cluj - Napoca, Romania

The volunteering landscape in Europe is becoming ever more diverse. Not only have 10 new countries joined the EU in 2004 with their own traditions and experiences in volunteering and civic engagement, but also the volunteering population itself changes in all Member States. There seems to be trends away from a long-term volunteer engagement towards a more project based, short term volunteering “à la carte”. Additionally, the different age groups are not engaged in the same way in the different countries in Europe.

Addressing volunteers of different ages groups needs different approaches. But what are these approaches? And what are the tendencies that CEV members as well as experts in the field observe? This General Assembly tried to give answers to these questions from an expert perspective and from CEV member organizations’ perspective.

Main objectives of the conference were:

  • To raise awareness, demonstrate relevance and address challenges of volunteering for all ages and send a message about this to a wider public, in Romania and throughout Europe

  • To give a special focus to the Romanian perspective and reality
